What the heck is Spyware?
Spyware is a generic term for programs that install themselves on your computer without telling you that they are there. They run in the background tracking where you go online and sending the information off to the company that built the program. Hence the term “Spyware” or Spying Software.
The reason for spyware being built originally was to use it as a marketing tool. If you know where a person surfs then you can target advertisements toward that person based on their surfing habits.
Newer spyware programs are becoming more malicious and harder to remove than they were before. This is where the term Malware comes in . . . or Malicious Software. The term “Malware” also refers to Trojans or Virus depending on what it does.
So how do I get it off my computer?
In most cases spyware removal is a fairly simple process. There are some excellent Free Tools available to help keep your system clean.
For best results I suggest using more than one. Also, it is good to plan on doing a cleanup/spyware removal at least once a month to keep your computer in top working order.
The tools I find work best are (in no particular order):
Spybot Search & Destroy
AdAware
Microsoft Spyware Removal Tool
These are all free tools and work well in conjunction with each other.
(Special Note for the Microsoft Spyware Removal Tool: If you do not have a Valid copy of Windows XP you will NOT be able to install this. Microsoft implemented a Validation Test to check for illegal copies of Windows XP.)
So now, we'll break down the steps to keep your computer spyware free and in excellent running order. If you follow these steps your computer will run much faster. After many years of doing cleanups this is the fastest way I know of to complete this process. You can do it in any order but the time it takes to complete will vary. On a reasonably new machine, a complete cleanup and spyware scan usually only takes about an hour if you follow this order.
Steps:
1. Create a Folder on your desktop called CLEANUP
2. Open your browser and go to: http://toddarsenault.com/cleanup.html, or download them directly from the internet.
3. You can download the tools used in this article there.
4. Download a copy of Adaware.
5. Download a copy of Spybot.
6. Download a copy of VoptXP (Only program that is not free.)
7. Download a copy of RegCleanerXP.
8. Download a copy of CrapCleaner (sorry . . . I didn’t name it)
9. If you do not currently have an Antivirus program, please feel free to download a copy of Avast from http://www.avast.com It is a free and excellent Antivirus tool.
Now . . . what do we do with all this?
1. Open your CLEANUP folder and install VoptXP first.
2. When that is complete install CrapCleaner. (You can leave all the settings default when you install these programs.)
3. Run the CrapCleaner program and click on Analyse. This will take some time depending on how many junk files are on your computer.
4. Once it is done analysing your computer click on the RunCleaner button. This will eliminate all the junk files that windows tends to store.
5. Close the CrapCleaner program now and open VoptXP.
6. Click on the Checkmark to Analyse your hard drive.
7. Once that is complete Click on the button to the left of the checkmark. It looks like a stack of rectangles.
8. Do not run any other programs while this is running. VoptXP is defragging your hard drive.
a. Just a note on why I suggest using VoptXP: You can use the defrag program that comes with XP if you prefer, Vopt is just faster at defragging a drive. This is not a FREE program but will work for 30 days.
9. Once the defrag is complete close VoptXP and reboot the computer.
10. Now install Adaware and Spybot.
11. We are going to run Spybot first for a couple of reasons. It immunises the computer and does a registry backup before making any changes. It will also ask to update the files . . . please do this as you will want the newest definitions to catch all the spyware.
12. Once Spybot has completed scanning it may ask you to reboot or tell you that it could not clean all the spyware. If it asks to do a scan on reboot, say Yes.
13. Now we want to run Adaware. Whew . . . seems like a lot of work when I type it ;-)
14. Adaware is fairly easy to work with. Simply click on Start when it loads. You don’t have to change any settings. When the scan is complete you do have to right click on the spyware found and left click on “Select All” – Then simply click the Next or Finish button.
If you followed the steps above your computer will be running faster and your surfing habits won’t be being tracked by spyware.

Two Dads: One Computer-Maniac, The Other Computer-Phobic.
I have two Dads. That sounds strange doesn’t it? One is my genetic father, and the other is my geneticist father. The genetic Dad I’ve only ever lived with for one year when I was an infant, while the geneticist Dad is what you would call a step-father, but I’ve lived in close proximity with him for more than 20 years. I feel close to them both. I connect differently with each of them but on a pretty much equal level. The reason I’m sharing my personal information with you is because I’ve just had a realisation about my fathers in relation to the area that I work in: computers and the Internet. It’s really quite interesting.
One father is a computer maniac. Whenever a new technology, software, gadget, or website emerges he is one of the first to grab it up and evaluate it. My other father has an old piece-of-crap box that looks something like a computer, with a tediously slow dial-up connection to the World Wide Web. Compared to the wireless, broadband Mac personal computer and mobile-connected Mac laptop of the enthusiast, they couldn’t be from further parts of the galaxy.
Then there’s me. I could be construed as being a walking paradox, an enigma, or just plainly twisted when it comes to my relationship with the computer and Internet sphere of life. Nature/nurture, genetic/environmental…For whatever strange reason, I have turned out to be a combination of the two papas. I work as a creative writer for an Internet web-hosting company. I love the ideas and valuable functions and tools that the Internet has brought to humanity (or was it humanity that brought it to the Internet?). However, I have issues and challenges when it comes to using these awe-inspiring machines.
Currently I am away from home in a different city visiting my girlfriend. At home (I am currently living with my parents-Mother and geneticist, as I’m going to live overseas soon) all I have to do to get on the Internet is open up my laptop and I’m on-line. If I’m at work, I go to my PC and all of my settings are stored and ready for me to use. While in a new place, things haven’t been running as smoothly as I would’ve liked. The answers are probably simple and easy to do, but this is one of the kinds of challenges that cause me to stumble. Although I am deeply interested and have a true faith in this new technology, I am a real novice when it comes to getting things done on someone else’s computer.
I brought my laptop with me. My girlfriend only has a dial-up connection which she uses with her laptop. I could use hers’ but she’s Chinese so a lot of what comes up on the screen is illegible to me. I don’t know how to change her language configuration. I’m used to doing it quite easily on my Mac, but her computer is a PC and I’m not as practiced in this other format. That’s one of my problems. I only have so much patience when it comes to working these technological issues out; it could be a trait passed on by my ice-age father (No judgement is being laid here. He just doesn’t feel that he can work new technologies out. He’s had a digital telephone answering machine for two years which he still hasn’t set up. He feels bad about it but his manual one does the job, so he sticks with it.). I’m also a little afraid to hook my laptop up to her dial-up line as I know from experience that I’ll have to change some settings of which I am not confident about doing.
So the next answer was to go to her university where she said people use their laptops wirelessly in the library. That sounded cool so I went in and tried it out. I even tried changing the settings to get it to work (It took courage.) but I couldn’t get it to work. I was weary about asking for help because I wasn’t really a student at that particular learning establishment. Instead, I’ve been using the library’s computers. This is OK, but since I can’t walk away with the files I create (I borrowed my girlfriend’s thumb-drive but an experience from the past of not being able to transfer information from PC to Mac deters me from using it-again, an irrational fear. I know it, and I will give it a try this week. I’ve resorted to saving my files in my email account as attachments. It’s not conventional, but it works.
Another issue I’ve had is getting onto my messenger service. The university computers don’t have it on their desktop, and when I tried to download an on-line version I was told that I didn’t have the authority to do so. I went to an Internet café, and I could do work there (I’m working on the road) but I feel kind of silly paying to get paid. It was cool there though as they had messenger with voice and video and I was able to have a conversation with my brother who is travelling around India. He could see my sister and me, but we couldn’t see him as he said the Indian computer devices (webcams, headsets) in that town were looking a little bit crappy in design and also looked worse for wear. It was heaps of fun making funny faces knowing that he would be seeing us. I think he’s getting lonely as he’s only 19 years old and has been away from home for over 7 months.
As you can see I’ve inherited beliefs about computer from both of my Dads. I find things more difficult than most, I believe, but I’m not going to give up doing my best to get the things done that I feel are necessary. Over time I hope to get over these little obstacles and hurdles and become proficient in all of the cool aspects of this new realm of human endeavour. I also have faith that the technicians and engineers are probably working hard to make things simple for the rest of us.
Whatever happens, I’m going to stick with it, and when I go to see my genetic father next I’m going to do my best to inspire him to buy a new computer with a Broadband connection. Then all I have to do is show him a few of the amazing things that this human created Internet tool can do. One of the aspects of the Web that affects me most profoundly is the simple fact that if you think of anything at all in the known Universe, you can then look it up on your search engine like Google and in the time it takes to blink your eye, immediately start to learn. It sure beats catching the train to the library, looking up a book in the card catalogue, searching for it, then finding out that someone else has borrowed it and is late bringing it back.

Computer Problems - 5 Simple Ways To Speed Up Your Computer

When a computer starts to slow down it can really be a big pain. Many people believe that only a computer technician is the final answer. Actually there are things you can do yourself to speed up your own computer. This article will show you a few simple ways to speed up your computer.
1) Clean The Start Up Folder.
Items in the Startup folder are not the actual programs themselves. They are simply shortcuts to the programs. Deleting these items will not affect the programs themselves. If you are lucky enough to be using Windows 98 or XP, you can perform the cleanup right from the same screen used to check your Startup programs list. Move your cursor over the item you want to remove, right-click, and choose delete. Before you delete any item from your start-up folder, be sure that you at least try to determine its function.
Some programs like Microsoft Office will have a Fast Find or Office Start in the Startup folder. These shortcuts are unnecessary and can be deleted. If you don't know the purpose of an item in your Startup folder, you can still delete it. If you later find that you want to return it to the Startup folder, you can simply open the Recycle Bin, highlight the icon, right-click, and choose Restore.
2) Remove Old Programs and Software.
The first thing to do is click Start /Programs then hunt for the program you want to delete. Oftentimes, you'll find an Uninstall program under its program group. Another way would be to click the Start button/Settings/Control Panel. Then open the "Add/Remove programs" icon. You will see a list of programs that Windows can remove from your system. Just click the one you would like to remove and hit the OK button.
3) Scan Your Computer for Viruses, Mal-Ware, Trojans, and Spy ware.
In order to do this, it is highly recommended that you get a very good virus and spy ware cleaner. A free on can be found on the internet, but you should go to your nearest computer store for one. If your computer gets filled with ad-ware, viruses, spy ware, and other things, it will slow down dramatically. Try to detect them early and destroy them before any serious harm can come to your computer.
4) Keep Windows Update Turned On at All Times.
There are so many people who overlook this one simple step. Windows will provide free updates to all users. All you have to do is make sure that the icon is present and turned on. You will be reminded each time a new patch or new software becomes available. Do not overlook this step. Windows keeps all users up to date on all current viruses and other harmful things that can hurt your computer.
5) Remove Old Downloaded Desktop Themes.
The theme you downloaded may have installed onto your computer in a number of ways. Try this option: Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add / Remove programs. Look for any themes you may have installed and attempt to remove from here. You can also look in the Program Files Folder: Click Start -> Programs, and search for folders which represent theme names you installed on your system. If you find the themes listed, click the listing and look for the uninstall program button.
Keep in mind that this is only a small list of things to speed up any computer that uses windows. There can be a number of things wrong or altering your computer speed. Do a search online and you can find more things to look for. Good luck and take care of your computer.

Computer Security: The Essential Components For A Safe Computer
These days, computers are almost as common in households as telephones. Computers themselves do not cause any threat to individual security. When connected with networks and the chaos that is the World Wide Web, computers have become the tools that identity thieves and hackers use to extrapolate this chaos. In order to establish computer security, software companies have created devices to ward off the hazards and hassles of viruses, spyware, pop-ups and spam.
The first of these creations is anti-virus software. There are two main companies that offer this software: McAfee and Norton. These programs work to scan the files on your computer and check them for attributes that are in viruses or are often linked with viruses. These traits or attributes are often called virus definitions and need to be downloaded on a relatively regular basis. In addition to the files on your computer, files on CDs, floppy discs and e-mails can and should be filed. There is no question on this one: anti-virus software is vital to computer security.
Next on the list is spyware scanning software. Spyware occurs when certain websites run programs in the back ground of your computer while gleaning information from it. The information can be as benign as tracking what type of websites you look at, to actually acquiring passwords. Regardless of the type of spyware, it can slow your computer to a crawl and needs to be removed from your computer. Two popular software options are Spy Sweeper and Ad-ware.
Last, but certainly not least are pop-up blockers and span filters. Not only are pop-ups and spam annoying, but these often contain the spyware scanning software explained above. In addition, they can slow your computer down incredibly. And when you are angry at your computer, your computer is not secure!
In addition to these software items, there are a few more tricks you can use to keep your computer and your information secure. Password secure everything you can, and when you create the passwords, don’t make them easy. Do not use your name, your birthday or your social security number. And, if you are on an unsecured wireless network, do not check your bank statements. These networks allow several people on them at one time. Remember, hackers are smart. You have to be smarter!

Computer Rentals: The Best Classroom Computer Training Solution
For classroom training, renting computers, sound systems and projectors from a computer rental company is the easiest and most cost efficient way to coordinate corporate training initiatives with the least amount of headaches.
Save Time and Money with Training: Computer, Projector, and Sound System Equipment Rentals
Even if you own all the equipment you need for a computer training session you will save money by using the installation services of a computer rental company. Computer rental companies coordinate everything technical so you can concentrate on the execution of your computer training program.
Trainers can become technicians very quickly when training computer equipment doesn't work properly.
Training directors know how difficult it can be to 'work out all the bugs' before, during and after each training program.
Execution is the key to training results and efficiencies. If 20% of the computers don't work, you can have a training disaster on your hands.
Add up all the costs and distractions from your computer training goals. Put a value on your time, say $100 per hour. Now multiply the time you and your staff spent on hardware setup, delivery, installation, maintenance and removal. Keep in mind that all computers need to have the same configuration to maximize productivity.
Here is a quick checklist of common tasks that need to be accomplished on every computer training session.
1. Install same versions of operating systems and training software
2. Install sound system, projectors, printers
3. Run network cables
4. Tape down all wires
5. Connect to network services
6. Test each computer
7. Troubleshoot installation problems
8. Diagnose and fix all problems
9. Service equipment during training sessions including having spare equipment available.
10. At the end of the computer training, disconnect, pickup and return all the equipment to various locations in your company.
How many man-hours would it take for you and your company's staff to accomplish the classroom training setup, service and teardown?
Here are some things to find out if you use a computer rental company for computer training sessions:
Find out if the computer rental company has any experience with the classroom training hardware and software you need. If they do often they can remember all the pieces and parts that easily get overlooked by a non-experienced rental company.
Some rental companies will install software or 'image load' all rental computers prior to delivery.
For example, you can have your training program software and the OS of your choice installed on all desktop or laptop computers!
Have the computer rental technicians test each application by following your testing directions. This ensures that your training software will work as planned.
Make sure delivery, setup is planned well in advance of computer training sessions.
Make sure you are covered with an on-site service program! Ask for extra, spare equipment can even be included for your computer training class! Often you can get a spare unit for free!
Focus on your core competency...your computer training session. Don't be distracted by hardware and software problems. Let the experts focus on their core competency.. your computer training hardware installation and management!

While paying off the amount, a borrower can get two options; he can pay off the amount through monthly installments or through balloon payments.
Now it comes to the interest rate of poor credit computer finance. Since, the borrowers, having a poor credit score, have a little credibility among the lenders; hence lenders charge a higher interest rate on poor credit computer finance. But nothing to be worried, some alternatives are there, which will assure you in getting some relaxation on the interest rate. Let’s check the methods.
• If borrowers go for the secured option, it will enable them to get their computer financed at a better interest rate, despite having a poor credit score. Generally, in this option, presence of security covers the risk of lending amount and it facilitates borrowers to enjoy better terms and conditions.
• Shopping for a better deal is also necessary to make the interest rate pocket friendly. Yes, borrowers are advised to go through various quotes of different lenders. It will enable borrowers in finding a lucrative deal.
• And one of the most important tasks is to be aware of present credit score. Get your credit score checked from some reputable credit rating agencies such as Equifax, Transunion etc. It will empower you to negotiate with lenders in order to get an affordable interest rate.

Early Vintage Computer Buses Have Their Influences On Your Computer Today
The term “expansion bus “is a frequent term in vintage computer terminology which requires elaboration. Much of the legacy of vintage bus systems are in our current computer systems today.
To begin with the “expansion bus" is a data highway for computer data information to travel on: the bandwidth is in essence the number of lanes. The bigger the bandwidth the more data can be sent. As examples, an 8 megabyte bandwidth means that data can be sent in 8 bits chunks. Our current systems use between 32 bit and now 64 bit bandwidth.
An expansion bus is where cards connect to the computer; Cards have an expansion edge, which fits snugly into the bus much like an electrical plug fits into a wall socket.
When cards are plugged into the bus, they communicate with the system, sometimes through the BIOS and others not. (The BIOS is the basic input /output system that tells the computer how to move data from the different components.) The 8, 16 or 32 bit bandwidth is an important consideration due to communication time between the cards. For example you have a 16 bit vintage 286 PC and it is sending out data at 16 bits a: your video card is also 8 bits. If you have an older 8 bit bus, such as in early IBM PCs and clones, the bus will become a bottleneck in the system; it is like having a 4 lane highway connected to another 4 lane highway by way of a 1 lane road. At most times regardless of the faster 4 lane highway traffic will be slow – limited by the single lane connection road.
There were basically 3 types of expansion bus available in vintage computers: ISA, MCA, EISA systems.
Each early development in major ways paved the way for the later systems which indeed we take for granted today. This was both in terms of hardware and basic concepts in our computer systems and technology as well as computer marketing that we take for granted today as simple basic facts of life without any consideration due.
Basically the newer buses offered increased performance over the older technology buses.
The basic explanations of the buses are as follows:
The 3 bus standards to note were Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) .Micro Channel Channel Architecture (MSA) and Extended Industry Standard (EISA) bus systems.
Industry Standard Architecture (ISA). This was the original AT bus also called an ISA bus. It was the original 8 bit IBM PC bus which was bumped up to 16 bits at some point in its later development. Fine for a 16 bit 286 or very early 386 computers
Micro Channel Architecture (MSA). This was an early 32 bit bus system which was not received well but set the stage for an industry consortium of the major non IBM computer manufacturers ( at the time referred to as “The Group of Nine) to develop the EISA standard bus.
Extended Industry Standard Architecture (EISA). The EISA bus standard was a standard of its own right which was 32 bit, included bus mastering and importantly remained compatible with previous older expansion cards. 32 bit systems were first to incorporate in later 386 systems. The 486 line solidified and standardized the 32 bit systems in the established software of the day.
Backward compatibility at the time was a novel new concept which has remained an important consideration in the computer industry.
EISA slots would accommodate both the ISA and EISA expansion slots to allow hardware upgrades, However the EISA expansion boards would be of little advantage and would seldom work in the older ISA expansion slots.
On the other hand the Micro Channel setup was not backward compatible. On the one hand the Micro Channel developers were free to initiate new radical changes in computer development and hardware which would have allowed for major new useful features in computer software. However owners of previous systems would have been left with then obsolete vintage useless hardware which would have been of no use and certainly little financial value.
Hence there was a lot of resistance to the Micro Channel bus setup.
It died a lingering death with its legacy living on in the aspirations of features offered in future developments and standards.
Thus the die was set for future hardware standards and software function as well as standard computer marketing concepts that we take for granted like mother’s milk today.

IBM Teams Up With Computer Science Teachers Association To Provide Free Online Computer Course Materials
Online courses can now be obtained free of charge. These providers of free online computer courses offer free course materials that can be freely downloaded from their respective websites. But the main thing here is to assure the credibility of the sources and accuracy of the detailed information on a specific course. If such a provider has enough experience in the IT industry to back their claims, chances are, you're getting the best free online computer course deal in the country.
Now always remember that free online computer courses can be obtained by just acquiring a free set of educational materials on a specific field of interest. If free educational materials on computer courses are what you want, then you should consider getting these from IBM and the Computer Science Teachers Association. Through accredited schools in the country, that is.
Now these two top American IT specialist groups have actually teamed up with each other so as to provide free online computer course materials on various tech areas. The tech areas cover a wide range of specific skill-development training materials, such as free online computer course materials on advanced handheld equipment usability, JAVA-based programming, web design and development, Flash, and SQL programming. These free computer course materials have integrated a system to match each individual's skill level in a certain area of computer technology. The online system provides the distance learners the option of dictating their own pace when it comes to the learning process. Plus, since it's an online computer course they're availing, they could easily take on fun travel holidays even while continuing with the course.
There are free materials for beginner, intermediate, and expert learners, respectively. IBM and the Computer Science Teachers Association have created these materials so as to be integrated on the educational system of the country. With this, these free online computer course materials would be handled by each accredited educational institution.
For a beginner, these electronic computer-related training materials would be very useful. Compared to other online computer training courses, such digital materials do not need intermediary skills in computer navigation and basic computer software operation. In addition, these free digital materials do not require a learner to have the skills in navigating through the internet. Of course, the reason for this is quite obvious. If it's an online computer-related course a learner is intent on studying, this person must possess internet browsing and computer navigation skills that range from beginner levels to near-expert skills. But what IBM and the Computer Science Teachers Association have made accessible even to beginners are the materials themselves. Aside from the fact that these learners are given free online computer-related course materials based on their choice and skills, they can just download these free course materials and view them offline. This makes such materials accessible even to those without internet browsing knowledge. Some materials or documents are even available in non-electronic or hard copies, which make learning even more accessible to those without proper computer navigation and software operation skills.
On the other hand, intermediate to near-expert computer and IT specialists can also benefit from these free online computer course materials. The main reason for this is that these free online materials from IBM and the Computer Science Teachers Association have passed the strictest standards when it comes to quality and accuracy. Through the documents made available by the team-up, students with enough background on IT-related topics and subjects could already gain substantial knowledge in his or her chosen field. Thus, these free online computer course materials can greatly help in making the data from free online computer courses, or even the paid ones, virtually usable and easy to understand. In this sense, the free electronic course materials by IBM and the association can even be used as a stand-alone method of learning each field of IT; this could be very much advantageous to those who possess average to above average computer skills. Another additional bonus of these materials is that students could easily set their own pace of learning, without any pressure whatsoever from online course administrators who give out tight deadlines for projects and modular activities.

All Roads Lead From Rome All Computer Enhancements Arise From Computer Busses
We take a lot for granted in our modern Pentium 4 and advanced Atahlon computers. Plug and play, instant hardware configuration for the motherboard and accessory cards are pretty standard stuff.
However it was not always that way. Early motherboards were limited in terms of computing speed and had to be manually set up and configured by tech experts with physical “jumper settings:” among other skills.
These were not skills that knowledgeable teenager hackers generally had. If you wanted to compute so to say just as you had to have a good mechanic for your car you needed and excellent computer technician.
Things were humming along early on with the advent of 386 and 486 era computers. All in all there were a number of ongoing improvements. These included. 32 bit widths. Bus mastering. Less susceptible to noise in that they were “quieter’ in signal transmission. More convenience of setup of adds on boards via software.
Just as all roads so to say lead from Rome early computer advances all came from improvements in the “Computer Bus”.
The ISA bus came in only 8 bit and 16 bit formats. Whereas the later 386 and 486 chips , in both the DX and SX formats while they did have a 32 bit path were hobbled by the ISA bus. As a result they could never realize their true 32 bit speed potential. Later buses such as the MCA and EISA busses were able to overcome these inherent limitations.
Thee “data highways” referred to as “: busses” are the data transmission lines around the PCs. The bus serves as the path for information transmission around the PC. True this routing is controlled by the CPU. However as that point in vintage computing history this was not an issue. The PCs were stand alone single CPU units.
However as time went on and PCs got faster and more complicated with less expensive additional CPUs handling other tasks within the PCs events became dicer.
Onboard peripherals themselves began to have built in CPUs. CPUS in different manners began to be found in such peripherals as hard drives, sound and video cards.
The overall computer system may become much more efficient if these in essence peripheral CPUs can communicate directly with each other. without having to use the main CPU as an intermediary. Hence MCA and EISA were developed with these roles in mind. The concept became known as “bus mastering”.
Bus mastering involves the concept that the peripheral CPUS could request permission to take over the bus for a short period of time. The main CPU would grant permission for them to take over the bus, and it would temporarily drop “out of the loop”, enabling swift communications between for example the hard drive and floppy disk drive.
As computer busses developed and had the inherent abilities to transfer more and more data in a given time period noise became an issue. The ISA bus was fairly noise prone because it relied on triggered interrupts. Whenever the voltage level on the data line of the bus exceeded a given threshold value then “Edge Triggering” would result.
The alternative to this situation where “Edge Triggering” could result is “level triggering” where it is required that the transmitting hold and archive the higher voltage level in order for data to be recognized by the devices on the bus. Edge Triggering however can lead to “transients” – that is brief power surges that can confuse the devices on the bus into thinking that data is on the bus when it is not. Luckily level triggering lowers the noise level and both MCA and EISA employ it.
As a result of all of these inherent benefits MCA and EISA came to support the idea, which we know take for granted, of instant software configurations. There were no switches or jumpers on add in MCA or EISA boards. Although we take plug and play instant configuration of mother boards and peripherals such as sound, video or network cards for granted it was not always that way. We owe a lot to these early computer innovations of improving the computer bus.

How Computer Viruses Work And How To Protect Your Computer

Many people are afraid of tinkering with their computers because of the fear that they might inadvertently introduce a computer virus into the computer system.
Computer viruses have become the technological bogeyman that scares computer users all over the world. We have all heard of how dangerous computer viruses are and how it can damage your data. Of course, aided by the bloated images Hollywood movies paint with regards to computer viruses, a big majority now have this insane (but mostly unfounded) fears about it.
It is true that computer viruses are dangerous. Anyone who has lost vital information in their computers because of a computer virus will know how big a damage it can cause. But computer viruses are not these insidiously little pieces of code that could wreak havoc on the world. If you know what to do when you get a virus in your computer then you can definitely limit, if not totally stop, the damage it can cause.
But what is a computer virus? Well, it is a software with a small imprint that would usually attach itself on to a legitimate program or software. Every time this program is executed the virus is also executed and it tries to reproduce itself by attaching to other programs or it immediately starts affecting the computer. A computer virus and email virus basically have the same modus operandi, the difference though is that an email virus would attach itself to an email message or automatically send itself using the addresses in the address book in order to infect the people who receive the email.
A computer virus is usually embedded in a larger program, often a legitimate piece of software. The virus will be run when the legitimate software is executed. The computer virus would load itself into the memory of the computer and then it will seek out any programs where it can likely attach itself. When a likely program is found then the virus would modify the file in order to add the virus’ code to the program. The virus would usually run before the actual legitimate program runs. In fact, the virus would usually perform the infection first before it commands the legitimate program to run. This process is so fast that no one would even notice that a virus was executed. With two programs now infected (the original program and the first infected program), the same process would be repeated whenever either program is launched worsening the level of infection.
After the infection phase, or even within the middle of the process of infection, the virus would usually start its attack on the system. The level of attack can range from silly actions like flashing messages on the screen to actually erasing sensitive data.
Fortunately, there are steps that you can do in order to protect your computer from viruses. Among the steps that you can take are:
* The simplest way to avoid a virus is to install a legitimate and effective antivirus program in your computer. The antivirus program is designed to look out for any kind of activity that could be seen as similar to a virus attack or infestation and it automatically stops it.
* You can opt to use a more secure operating system in your computer. For example, Unix is a secure operating system because the security features built into it prevents a virus from actually doing what it is programmed to do.
* Enable Macro Virus Protection in all of the Microsoft applications resident in your computer. Additionally, you should avoid running macros in a document unless you have a good idea of what these macros are going to do.
* Avoid using programs that you have downloaded on the internet especially when they come from dubious sources.
* Never open an email attachment that contains an executable file – these are files with the EXE, COM and VBS extensions.

I think it will pick up from the limited ability of our

providers are getting nervous. Also, think about this
technology integrated with our phone and communication
system. A projection of your son, daughter, parents, or
anyone even in another country could be projected setting
next to you and talking or interacting. All of this seems
SIFI and maybe it does sound a bit like the old cartoon
"The Jetsons". However, all of this is possible through
our growth and open mindedness. All of these things I
mentioned are already out there in some form just waiting
to find a way to incorporate them. So while SIFI is not
even that much of a stretch, just imagine thinking about TV
when we only had the radio. I do not think anyone even
thought about these realities until they where introduced.
I cannot predict what else is to develop. We as the
consumer, drive the direction of technology with our
willingness to bend with change.
I remember before I learned how to get free cable tv,
having a TV that only got 4 channels about 35 year ago.
Then we joined the race getting a 13 cable cannels 1
through 13 on the TV dial. Next cable came out with the
converter giving us 18 channels, and then I bought a huge
dish and got over 200 channels. Ok I moved on and got
direct TV to receive maybe 400 channels. Then digital
cable caught up and the offered the ability to watch
different programming in other rooms and it was less
expensive. Now I have moved on to PC TV that offers 10,000
channels at a one time small up front fee. While my
basement and house right now is laced with thousands of
feet of wiring from my original cable, analog cable from my
10 foot dish, direct TV cables, and digital cable. I even
have antenna wires running through. I never had to add any
wires for my PC TV I just clicked a key on my computer. Now
I just need to figure out what to do with all those wires
running through out the house.
Learning how to get free cable tv on your computer is an
excellent invention. It is voted best new product of 2008.
Watching TV online requires no additional hardware and when
new channels become available they are automatically added.
All the software necessary to view TV on the Internet use
easy to use user interfaces. Watching TV on your computer
is simple. You just have to know where to look. Watch
concerts, festivals, and videos from all around the world.
How about watching live sports that are not shown on normal
satellite TV including your favorite sports team?
As you learn how to get free cable tv you can watch local
TV, world TV, Live TV, satellite TV from countries of all
world. You can also watch your favorite TV series, music,
news, sports, movies, comedy, religious, and adult content
anytime you want. Watching in different languages on your
PC not just at home, but at the OFFICE, work or wireless is
also a plus. Create your own library of video content
anywhere you have an internet connection. No additional
equipment needed. Watch Live Games, even the ones that your
cable company does not show them.
Your cable TV providers will not tell you what has happened
to the television broadcasting industry. Internet has
changed the traditional way to watch TV and brought TV
programs to your computer or laptop with incredible low
set-up fee but more exciting and plentiful programs and
channels.

Learn how to get free cable tv as our TV sets will become
outdated like the VCR, the cassette tape, the 8 track, the
record player, the antenna, analog tv, the 10 foot
satellite dish I removed a few years ago in my back yard,
and also the black and white tv with the dial channel
changer.
Is the ability to advance in home entertainment limited due
to our TV sets? While some nice Hi-definition programming
is available now, what else can we get? Have we limited
our potential because we are closed minded? Not everyone
has. As you can see, many people are abandoning their
norm of thinking and learning how to get free cable tv.
While learning how to get free cable tv on the Pc is not
yet a standard or has it even come close to its potential.
I think it will pick up from the limited ability of our
cable satellite TV providers. While PC programming is very
close to what cable supplies now, I see in the very near
future huge leaps beyond our wildest thinking. Do you
think we could move to interactive, virtual reality, image
projection, or true 3 and 4 dimensional programming with
our TV sets? I visited a virtual reality programming
center while on vacation one year. Now I can only imagine
this being available in all of our homes. You look right;
you look left and amazingly enough you're in the action of
this reality TV. Now I'm not saying PC TV is to this point

The Facts About Computers: Seven Common Misconceptions
by CHRIS SMITH
So – you think you know all there is about computers? There are a lot of popular misconceptions about the machines we live with, work with and play with. So perhaps you might not know your PC as well as you think.
Here are some of the popular myths about computers.
You should leave your personal computer on all the time. There’s nothing wrong with turning off your machine periodically—it’s actually beneficial.
Deleting your files erases them forever. You should never consider your computer completely “clean” after dropping your files in the trash can.
Magnets murder your data. An extremely powerful magnet can erase a hard drive, but not your garden-variety refrigerator magnets.
An antivirus program isn’t necessary if I use a firewall. A firewall simply prevents unauthorized users from entering your system remotely. They don’t know anything about viruses.
Restarting is bad for a computer. Hitting “restart” doesn’t harm your computer at all, and in some cases it may actually do it some good.
Updating your computer’s software makes it faster. It can make your computer run more slowly if its running requirements are high enough.
Freeware is safe to download. Many free programs finance themselves by bundling adware in with their programs. When you download the free software, the adware installs itself as well.
Computer technology has changed quickly in just a few decades—and what was true then isn’t necessarily true now. Today’s computers are more powerful, safer, and more stable—and many of these beliefs don’t stand up to further examination.
